Wrong pin code/ card declined at cashpoint?

Resolved Question

Wrong pin code/ card declined at cashpoint?

i recently got a new pin code and bank card and today before college i tried to lift money out but i forgot the code. i tried 3 times. When i got home from college i went to the nearest post office and tried again with the correct pin code. it let me in to the choice screen but then wouldn't let me do anything else? The guy at the post office said my card has been declined.

so basically is it because i tried 3 times with the wrong number so i need to wait 24 hours or will i need to go to the bank tomorrow before college?

For security reasons, if you enter the wrong PIN three times, the card is usually blocked. You will have to contact the Bank; probably a new PIN will be sent to your registered address.

  • I think if you had tried another ATM your card would have been swallowed, most banks operate a three strikes policy, and that's not even 3 consecutive goes but 3 times total. You will probably have to convince your bank that you are still in possession of the card and it was simply a case of you forgetting your new PIN. Don't try anymore ATM's as most banks put a pair of scissors through any cards swallowed by their machines, then they return them to the issuing bank!
  • You need to contact the bank and they will re-issue you a new pin and possibly a new card.
